Sorry, just one second. First, I have to say we finally did it! Well, at least we bought our one-way flights out of San Francisco. So as of now, I guess we almost did it. But starting October 2016, Daniel and I are going backpacking for a year!
Where are we going?
South America! After flying into Quito, we will head overland all the way to Patagonia, and hook back up through to Rio. We’re not big planners, but here are a few experiences we can’t wait for over the next 6-12 months (UPDATED 2017 with links to the full posts):
- Hiking the Quilotoa Loop
- Studying Spanish in Ecuador
- Exploring the alternative to the Galapagos
- Getting out into the Ecuadorian Amazon
- Learning to make ceviche in Lima
- Trekking an Inca Trail Alternative to Machu Picchu
- Cycling Bolivia’s Death Road
- Sandboarding in the Desert
- Scoping out the street art in Valparaiso
- Driving a campervan through Southern Chile
- Camping out in Torres del Paine
- WWOOFing in Mendoza
We’re looking forward to a whole lot of work exchange, outdoor adventures, alternative travel routes, and of course, plenty of eccentric experiences. We have a few surprises for you and expect this list of experiences to grow over time, but we’d love your recommendations! Have you heard of anything epic or unusual in South America that you’d have us try?
What does this mean for Travel Outlandish?
We’ve been planning this trip for a long time! We are full of big ideas, and as we travel in South America, I’ll be creating content while Daniel creates videos for each destination (follow us on YouTube to keep up with those!). We’ll be publishing posts way more often and giving this blogging thing a full-time shot.
After 2 years of Travel Outlandish, we’ve started to learn what works for you and what the rest of the internet is missing. We plan to create content about offbeat experiences that the guidebooks miss! We want to empower anyone to travel differently and to have more unique experiences. Here is a look at the categories we’ll cover along the way:
How to keep up
We’re not trying to be sappy, but this trip would truly not be the same without you. We will be choosing routes and experiences that are underrepresented online, and we need your help deciding where to go! You can help us navigate by subscribing to our newsletter or following us on Instagram where we’ll post (almost) daily. You can also click through to any of our social channels on the top right corner of the screen.
For the next few weeks, we’ll be packing up to leave San Francisco. We’ll be sharing how to prepare for a long term trip and some highlights from a city we’ve loved.
